The Preferences File
The Net Servers and Net Servers Configuration applications work together through
a preferences file which is created by the Net Servers
Configuration app. The Net Servers Configuration application updates
the preferences file each time Update Server or Quit is selected
from the File menu. The preferences file is then ready for the Net Servers to
access and obtain the configuration it will use at runtime.
To create the original preferences file, double-click on the Net Servers Configuration icon and select Update Server or Quit from the File menu. The file is automatically created, named Pictorius Net Servers Prefs, and stored for you in the Preferences subfolder of your System Folder.
Since the Net Servers application accesses the preferences file, it is important to remember to update any changes made through the Net Servers Configuration application. There are two ways to do this:
1) If the Net Servers application is not running, open the Net Servers Configuration application by double-clicking on its icon. Make any necessary changes and select Quit from the File menu. All changes to the configuration will be updated to the preferences file.
2) When the Net Servers application is running, double-click on the Net Servers Configuration icon, make any necessary changes, and select Update Server from the File menu. All changes to the configuration will be updated to the running server as well as the preferences file.
Setting the General Configuration
Double-click the Net Servers Configuration icon. When loaded, the main menu
consists of File and Configure submenues.
From the Configure menu select General. This submenu has three settings which relate to the logging of server events. Choose the one that best suits your server's needs:
Don't log events - will not log any events.
Log events to file in application folder - logs the events in a file (HTTP Log File) which resides in the same folder as the Pictorius Net Servers application.
Log events to file in other folder - logs the events in a file (HTTP Log File) which resides in a folder of the administrator's choice.
The choice of logging events is the administrator's preference and is to some extremely important as it gives a detailed account of the activities logged against the Web page. An example is shown below:
